Prof. A. Venkat Raman

Prof. Venkat Raman specializes in the fields of HRD and Health Policy. He holds a Master’s degree from TISS, Mumbai, and a Ph.D. from FMS, Delhi. He also completed advanced professional training at Harvard Business School, Boston, and the World Bank Institute, Washington DC. Before pursuing an academic career, he gained experience working with an international NGO.
Prof. Raman's research is primarily focused on exploring and harnessing Public-Private Partnership (PPP) strategies to enhance equitable access to healthcare services for underserved populations. He actively participates in advisory roles with numerous bilateral and multilateral development partners, including The World Bank, WHO, DFID, USAID, GIZ, BMGF, and other international agencies. His expertise lies in engaging the private sector to improve healthcare service delivery across Asia, Africa, and the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
His research projects have received funding from esteemed organizations such as the World Bank, WHO, DFID, and the Dutch Government, among others. Prof. Raman has a significant body of research publications to his name, including a book titled 'Public-Private Partnership in Health Care in India: Lessons for Developing Countries' published by Routledge, London.
He has been a member of several influential committees, including the Working Group on PPP during the 11th Five Year Plan, the National Technical Working Group (NTWG) on engaging the Private Sector in TB control, and the US-India Health initiative. He has also contributed to preparing a Model Concession Agreement for PPP in NCD Care for Niti Aayog and served on the task force for performance-based incentives for primary care providers under the Ministry of Health, Government of India.
Prof. Raman has been a distinguished speaker at knowledge platforms worldwide, sharing his insights and expertise. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards and fellowships, notably the McNamara fellowship from The World Bank, the Ronald Coase fellowship from UC-Berkeley, and the ICSSR International Senior Research fellowship from Erasmus University.
In addition to his academic pursuits, he has served as a visiting faculty/fellow at esteemed institutions such as the Institute of Social Studies in the Netherlands, the University of Mauritius, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, and ISB in Mohali.
